2004 Annual Meeting - Secaucus, New Jersey
NOJEX - May 29-31, 2004

The United States Stamp Society is in the process of planning our Annual Meeting to be held in conjunction with NOJEX, the annual stamp show sponsored by the North Jersey Federated Stamp Clubs.  The venue will be The Meadowlands Crowne Plaza Hotel, Two Harmon Plaza, in Secaucus, New Jersey.  The show will be held over the Memorial Day weekend running from Saturday, May 29 through Monday, May 31.

In addition to the USSS, the Ottoman and Near East Philatelic Society and the New Jersey Postal History Society will also convene their annual meetings at NOJEX.

The NOJEX jury will be chaired by Jay Stotts, our immediate past president, and will include Stephen L. Suffet, Patrick A. Walters, Joseph E. Foley, Stephen Reinhard and Seref Bornovali.  An exhibitor's prospectus may be obtained from Glenn Spies, P.O. Box 1740, Bayonne, NJ  07002 or via email.  Traditionally, we support the host show with nearly 100 frames of exhibits of quality U.S. material from our members.  The fee for multi-frame entries is $8 per frame while single frame exhibits are charged $15.  Exhibitors under 18 years of age pay only $3.50 per frame.  The deadline for applications is April 15th, but it is strongly recommended that you apply early since the show is one of only two qualifying WSP shows in the immediate New York City area.  As an added incentive, exhibitors will receive cards entitling them to an additional discount off the already low special hotel room rates.

Both the show and the banquet are on-site at the host hotel, which also offers free parking.  The hotel is offering special rates of $99 for a single room and $109 for a double room.  To obtain these room rates contact the hotel at (201) 348-6900 and request the special NOJEX rates.  A special reservation form can also be obtained by contacting me at P.O. Box 1005, Mountainside, NJ 07092 or via email.

The show will host a 40 dealer bourse and the show committee has worked hard to assure that a wide variety of quality U.S. material will be offered.

The USSS will hold our annual General Membership Meeting on Sunday and a Board Meeting will also be scheduled.

We always encourage those of our members who are interested in making a one hour presentation on an interesting U.S. philatelic topic to entertain the thought of doing so at our Annual Meeting.  If you would like to do so, please contact me and I will make the necessary arrangements with the show committee.

We are also requesting that USSS members from the New York/New Jersey area assist with our show table activities.  NOJEX will be providing us with an area for the purposes of selling our publications, promoting the Society, recruiting new members and socializing with fellow U.S. collectors.  During the show hours, we would like to staff our table with a combination of area volunteers, our officers, Board members, committee chairs, and authors.  Besides helping the Society, you'll also have a good time and enjoy the show even more.  If you are from the immediate area and would like to coordinate the table and/or volunteer for an hour or two, please contact me.

As usual, one of the Annual Meeting highlights will be our yearly Dutch Treat dinner on the first night of the show.  We will get together as the show closes on Saturday and head for an enjoyable dinner and evening of fellowship.  The NOJEX committee has offered several restaurant suggestions and we are checking into them.

Well, that's it for now.  If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact me.  It's shaping up to be a great weekend!

- Nick Lombardi
President
