Summary
In contrast to the past few years, there has been no change
in the leadership of the various committees and study groups
within the Society since our last Annual Meeting ten months
ago in Indianapolis. Each group continues to provide an
added benefit to the membership and any Society member with
an interest in a particular philatelic area is encouraged to
contact the committee or group chairperson for information
about membership.
In the May issue of The Specialist, we announced the
formation of a new study group, The Americana Series Study
Group, which will be chaired by Allen Bohart. The group has
set forth an ambitious agenda and we all look forward to
reading their articles.
In the same issue, you may have noticed that the Farley
Issues Study Group did not appear on the masthead page. For
a number of years, Chairman Ralph Sloat has said that the
group was really "a committee of one" and that the prospects
of being able to publish any new information about the
issues were slim at best. After consulting with Ralph, we
decided to remove the group listing. Ralph has said,
however, that he is always available to answer questions and
provide any information he can about this area.
Recently, the Exhibition Photocopy Service has taken a major
step forward and introduced the availability of exhibits on
CD in full color. Bob Toth and Frank Braithwaite have
created a user friendly format for the CDs and are looking
for more exhibits to add to the two initial ones which are
available at this show. See page 100 of the March Specialist
for details about how to "burn" your exhibit.
Finally, a special thanks to the committee and study group
chairpersons who provided a page about their group's
specialty for the United States Stamp Society single frame
exhibit here at the show. Although I do not know the
particular frame number of the exhibit at this time, it
should be listed in the official show program and I urge
everyone to take a look. Several people have suggested that
we may want to use this as publicity piece at other shows
where we have a presence. Please take a look and let me know
your ideas.
As you will see in the reports that follow, the Society has
an active and healthy committee and study group structure. It
will, however, only remain that way with your continued
support and ideas.
