“NATIONAL BANK NOTE Co. NEW YORK” in white letters on colored tablet. “No.” followed by the plate number are in color and in italics, and follow the imprint in TL and BL positions, and precede it in TR and BR positions.
The imprint and plate number are on the same line, although at various distances. The imprint was normally centered in the margin of the pane (i.e., in the center of 10 stamps), except that on the bicolored stamps
of the 1869 series it was centered on each half pane (i.e., in the center of 5 stamps). Used on the issue of 1869, and the early plates of the 1870 issue.
