Michael O. Perry, USSS Booklets and Booklet Panes Committee Chairman, has been awarded the USSS George W. Brett Century of Service Award. The Award was presented at the General Membership Meeting held at Milcopex, September 15, 2018.
The text of the citation accompanying the Award given to Mike Perry reads:
This award honors Michael Perry for his extraordinary dedication to United States Stamp Society. Michael Perry has been a leader in researching and publishing information about booklet stamp material. His service to the Society has spanned many decades. He was instrumental in helping Earl McAfee assemble the information for Research Paper #3 “Dummy Stamp Booklets”. In August of 1995 he assumed the duties of chairman of the Booklet and Booklet Pane Committee, a position he still holds today
.Michael has maintained Research Paper #2 “Folded-Style and Pressure Sensitive Booklet Checklist” which is now in its 13th Edition. As Coordinator for the booklet stamp area of the monthly Plate Number Report Michael has faithfully reported on new issues as they become available and assisted in the preparation of the Durland Standard Plate Number Catalog.
Michael, along with Terry Scott, has had annual meetings with the editors of the Scott Specialized Catalogue of United States Stamps and Covers to review and expand the section of the catalogue dealing with dummy and testing stamps. As a result of their efforts, this catalogue portion has grown over the years to become a major section and has encouraged the collection and study of this material.
Michael Perry’s philatelic research and leadership over many years has brought honor to the Society and is worthy of special recognition. Therefore, the Board of Governors recognizes Michael O. Perry for his extraordinary dedication to the USSS as the recipient of the George W. Brett Century of Service Award.
